Listen now | Architecture and design critic Alexandra Lange is the author of “Meet Me By the Fountain: An Inside History of the Mall.” She joins Heath to discuss the problems malls tried to solve, strange modern malls like New Jersey’s American Dream, and why malls hold so much potential for our future needs.
This is a great episode! Not only did I learn a lot about the history of malls, but you and Alexandra touched on a topic that my wife and I recently mentioned. There's a dead mall nearby us in Rutland, Vermont, and we discussed what might happen if it's turned into a mixed-use community center: perhaps even with some residential spaces, along with community gardens, co-working spaces, and more. Seems I should check out Alexandra's book, too.
