I love this Heath! The emphasis on gathering around fire and embracing a more leisurely pace serves as a reminder of the simple joys that winter can bring. Thank you.

Such a nice thing to write about. I like the way you put it. I didn't see anyone when I was shoveling but it was still very cold out. I see more folks when I garden because I garden in the front of the house. But I love the connection with the neighbors.

Thanks! It’s true that there may be less people in the cold, but there’s an interesting shared sense of purpose in clearing snow for sure!

Another reason not to buy a snow blower. I love the quiet outdoors, shoveling during a snowfall. My neighbors might or mightn' t be out. But it is a beautiful, reflective space and time.

Our old driveway was small enough that I would offen shovel by hand for the same reason. Our new one is longer and the snow seems wetter here too. It might just be what we’ve been dealt this season, but we’re also further south, so maybe on that rain/snow line more.

We are set to get our third major snowfall of the season and I’ve loved how quiet it’s made the air and how it looks over the waterfront. Also cool to see parts of the Potomac frozen.

We’re hanging in there and the moving plans are going well too!

Ive been working as a "local" in LA for the past 5 months and this article made me so home sick for New England - i don't care how sunny it is here - the snow, a fire, and those neighbors helping with the shoveling....are "home" to me.
