I cannot support any position that puts Donald Trump back into the White House. As much as I do not understand Israel's power position with our government, I greatly fear the results of a Trump presidency. Therefore, I will support anyone opposing the Republican party and its frightening and damaging agenda to Americans, the climate, and to the world. Kamala Harris gets my vote without hesitation. Any other rhetoric is damaging to the effort to prevent a Trump win.
I appreciate your thoughts and perspective, Aunt Rose, but I see it differently.
I too fear a Trump re-election, but I also think now is the time to hold Harris to account and make her earn our votes. The "never Trump at all costs" position is what got us Biden. Before dropping out, he promised that if re-elected, he would codify abortion rights into law, but why not do that now, as president? Why hold women's health hostage for months when he could take some action right now- executive orders, packing the courts, etc.
Same on climate. Yes, he re-entered the Paris Accords, but we're still taking baby steps when we need a radical rethinking of our economy, transportation, etc.
And of course there's Israel. Giving $8.7 billion in aid is hard to swallow, especially as Appalachia is now underwater, without power, and could be months without drinking water.
I'll be writing more about this in tomorrow's piece (because you're not the only person who expressed this POV), but I'd like to see Harris work to earn our vote, rather than play off the fear of Trump alone. There's a lot of work to do, and we can't make progress if we're still courting Cheney and Never Trumpers rather than building a young, progressive coalition.
Again, I´m totally with you. Just look too at the devastation left by Hurricane Helene and I also think of the billions of dollars US taxpayers are paying to fund Zionist Israel when those billions are so badly needed in the USA. Funding a genocide is beyond horrific and I´m extremely upset at the downplaying of citizen protests that have been ongoing for months and months by our politicians.
Heath you put all the words to my horror, grief, rage about ongoing US violence. Disbelief that Americans are carrying on as if we aren't EACH ONE OF US complicit in murder and genocide across multiple countries. As if we don't even care that money stolen from us for bombs isn't desperately needed for health care, housing, living wages, education. Thank you for writing.
You are naive to think a politician can get anywhere in the US without the Israel Lobby. They have nearly total control. Instead of electing Trump by not voting or voting for people who can't win, vote D and work to develop candidates and people who speak out against the Lobby. It will take time and money.
But honest question, if both sides are funded by the Israeli lobby and both sides are willing to fund these multiple genocides, what makes one side more worth my time than another?
You seem to place a lot of value on your feelings and preferences. I feel very very strongly about the horror and wrongness of what Israel is doing. I have studied this whole issue for years. It is appalling that the US is backing this… it is due to years of political pay offs which I am sure you know about. It is not something that can be changed on a dime. Now you can feel morally superior by not voting or voting for someone who can’t win, encouraging others to do so, but meanwhile we have a menace right here on our doorstep that will destroy America. We could avoid it if we came together. Many people not voting at all or voting for Stein will elect Trump. Period. That is just a fact. Wishing your feelings counted will not keep him from winning. You can tell your grandchildren that you are morally pure and it is a shame that they live under a nightmare now because Trump won. But you were right! You voted morally pure! it is just a shame that this maniac and Russian puppet got control of our country. And not only that, Trump loves Israel and will be worse about supporting them. I personally believe that this Israel nightmare will not go on. I think it is nearing the end of the control they have of us, it is too obvious now to too many. Trump will destroy us. I won’t go into Stein.
I expanded on my thinking in a piece last week. If you haven't read it yet, please do (third section of the linked piece below). Trump winning because Harris chooses to court the right wing (the Cheneys, the Lincoln Project) rather than address real concerns from folks like the Uncommitted movement, young people, etc, that's on her.
“that’s on her” is the most selfish comment I have ever heard in my life. I would not have bothered with my other reply if I had seen it. You don’t give a shit about 300 milllion people and the USA going down the tubes, because “that’s on her”. Good grief. No words.

So true Karen! And these weather events will only continue to be more numerous and destructive

if trump looks ok to you there is really nothing I can explain… just the end of our government.

what makes it worth your time is to avoid outright fascism in America which won't help Gaza either and make it impossible to get our country back.
