I did not know Mrs. H was a LIW fan. I dragged Paul to DeSmet too! It was a great trip. There are so many, many things in life that I can reference back to learning from the Little House books.
She was indeed! She had the boxed set of books on the bookshelf and we used to imagine her Michigan farm childhood wasn't that different from Wilder's. DeSmet is on our list now- they have a few RV sites right at the museum!
We also visited Plum Creek which is where everyone got malaria and Mary lost her sight. And the day we were there it was the most mosquito infested place I had ever been. But so great to have trod the exact places where Laura was. I read all the books to the boys. And Dan has read them to the kids. Ryan recently got me a new boxed set because the old one is falling apart. I still read them.
Thomas and I have considered making our own maple syrup on our property, as we have quite a few maple trees. It's just been too cold this year so far for us to begin tapping. But like you, we really just want to do it just to say we made it. There's nothing like the feeling of producing something yourself :)

I love that the tradition continues! I need to revisit these books now!
Now I am wanting a waffle. 😉
What's stopping you? Go for it!!
