I'm really happy to see Barnes and Noble back on the rise. We don't have a brick and mortar super close to us in Vermont; there is one in Saratoga Springs, New York that my partner and I haven't gone to yet together. But, we shop from B & N all the time online. That store you visited looks just like the one I used to frequent in my youth at the South Shore Mall in Braintree, MA. Brings back some good memories!
Thanks for sharing, Amelia! Yes, it was definitely a trip in the way back machine! Out of curiosity, why do you shop from BN online vs Amazon? I'm really interested in what's keeping BN thriving, as they're a brand I haven't considered in years and would love to hear your experience!
There's several reasons I shop Barnes and Noble over Amazon, but the primary reason is that my wife can't shop on Amazon anymore. They double charged us for some items for the house, and refused to refund us (it was something like 800 extra dollars). Our credit card company took our side and ended up cancelling both charges. Now she's banned from ever ordering from Amazon again. We were having lots of issues with them anyway, sending us wrong items (or extra items which was fine), and the prices on eBay and other online retailers were becoming less than Amazon. Also, Prime shipping isn't guaranteed in Vermont, so it was actually quicker to buy a lot of things on eBay, from Target, etc. Barnes and Noble's book prices have also been better than Amazon's recently.
Technically, I still purchase from Amazon, but through their subsidiary AbeBooks, because it's not linked to an Amazon account. I prefer to buy used books anyway. Also, my personal Amazon account got hacked, they refused to help me, so I don't even have an account there myself. Barnes and Noble has always been a favorite of mine, so I'll always choose them over Amazon regardless. Either way, Amazon is now overpriced, terrible customer service, and Prime membership isn't worth it if you live in the boonies like we do. And they banned my wife over THEIR mistake, so why should I support them either?
Wow! I had no idea that they could ban people from their platform! I definitely try to minimize what I buy from Amazon, but it seems to become more unavoidable as time goes on.
